During one of my paste paper get togethers, we used the foam paintbrushes (cheap from hardware store) with the dyes and it worked great. I also placed the (rice) paper outside on the ground and did some "dye flinging" which was so darn fun!

If you love the effect, try splashing out on a pump action spray bottle from a silk paint supplier. You get a more controlled spray from those. Seen it done, but not tried it myself, too mean to pay for them :)

I do have some experience of dyeing my fingers blue ;) I find scrubbing my hands with synthrapol helps get some of the colour out.

I've been a dyer for over 20 years but resisted using urea for a long time because everything I read said it was not necessary. But I have come to realise that adding a teaspoonful when dissolving the dye makes it dissolve so much easier. Also, most recipes say salt is not necessary for LWI dyeing but I have found you get a much better absorbtion of the dye when you include it (50g/ltr). Salt and urea are so inexpensive, so why not.

Such vibrant colors! I took a class from Annie Lullie who dyes her fabrics as well, and she talked about having little clear plastic tubs stacked with the fabric soaking in the basement (though that may have been one of her Chicago School of Fusing buddies). I love words used as quilting. It adds a very personal twist. I once made a quilt where the quilting was sort of a conversation I heard on a train journey. You know how people use their mobile phones and the whole carridge benefits. I just couldn't concentrate on reading so started writing down what I thought the person on the other end of the line to the woman on the train was saying. Great fun.
